Patience (National Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company, 2015)

14 Aug 2015 to 22 Aug 2015

The National Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company’s new production of Patience will be a major highlight of the 2015 Festival.    We are thrilled to have the one and only Donald Maxwell directing his first Opera Company production.  Donald brings a vast theatrical experience with him as performer, teacher and director. David Steadman conducts and the star cast of the NGSOC will delight audiences with this highly amusing and colourful story.

With its foppish poets, lovesick maidens, beautiful tunes and mesmerising wit, this rip-roaring riot of love will enchant and amuse.  Premiering in 1881, Patience portrays the absurdity of love and the over-the-top aspects of the aesthetic movement of 1870s and 80s.

This is a light-hearted tale of the rivalry of two poets fighting for the affection of Patience, a milkmaid.  English eccentricity at its absurd best.  Don’t miss it.
