In the year that the Queen celebrates her Diamond Jubilee, it seems fitting that Southampton Operatic Society’s summer production gives a nod to the Tower of London as it brings Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Yeomen of the Guard to the Nuffield stage.
Lovable scoundrel Colonel Fairfax (Mike Pavitt) is due to be beheaded, when the arrival of comic entertainer Jack Point (Shaun Dodimead) and his childhood sweetheart, Elsie (Alison Vincent) awards him a brief stay of execution and an opportunity to obtain a permanent release.
Dodimead combines his role as the hapless jester with that of Director, joining forces once again with Musical Director Nigel Finch in a production full of wonderful music, witty patter songs, vibrant characters and a poignant, humorous story of invention, mistaken identity, betrayal and unrequited love.
The Yeomen will be standing guard at the Nuffield Theatre, Southampton from 3 – 7 July at 7.30pm each evening (tickets £ 13 and £ 11, concessions available on request). Book your tickets now (Box Office 023 8067 1771) for your evening of songs, jibes, jokes and jollity!
